We are also certified doulas, which allows us to stay up-to-date with the local hospital policies, and gives us the advantage of experiencing what works well with laboring parents.

For families planning a hospital birth

Topics included in these classes are: signs and stages of labor, comfort measures and coping techniques including partner guided support and breathing techniques, pain medication options and the "what-ifs" of labor and birth including cesarean birth, the postpartum period and newborn procedures. Our classes also provide a tour of the Fletcher Allen Birthing Center, click the image to the right for a virtual tour.

These classes are a 5-week series or weekend classes (two 4.5-hour classes) in a group setting. We strongly encourage families to choose the 5-week series because it gives you more time to:

•               absorb information

•               practice breathing techniques and positions

•               reflect on your choices 

•               build friendships with other couples

That being said, we are happy to provide weekend classes if that works better with your schedule. 

For families planning a home birth


We designed these classes especially for individuals planning a home birth. The instructor is a knowledgeable childbirth educator who has personal experience with home birth. The classes are private or semi-private (2-3 couples) and cover topics including: signs and stages of labor, comfort measures and coping techniques including partner guided support and breathing techniques, and the postpartum period and newborn procedures. We have developed this curriculum with the help of an experienced certified midwife.

Hypnosis For Birth

Carolyn Lewis of the Wellspring Hypnotherapy Center is certified in hypnotherapy and hypnosis for birth. She offers a 3-class series called Hypnosis For Birth. We offer the childbirth education classes to provide a complete childbirth education experience. For more information on Carolyn's course please visit her website.
