Labor Support
"Words can not express the tremendous gratitude we feel
after having worked with Birth Journeys. It was a wonderful experience getting
to know you all and then having Genie attend our birth. There is no way we
would have had the life-changing birth experience we did without Genie’s help.
We will never forget you and are forever grateful!"
~Amy
“I can’t thank all of you enough for all your support and
love during my pregnancy and birth. I am so happy you were such a big past of
the most precious event of my life!”

“Birth Journeys provided the labor support for the welcoming
of our first birth child, Phoebe, into the world on February 2, 2010. The team
at Birth Journeys - Amy, Genevieve, and Jenna - met with us in early January
after the doula we were originally scheduled to work with had to back out for a
family emergency. I was a bit panicked at the thought of being 7 weeks from my
due date without a doula. The Birth Journeys team jumped right on board; they
were incredibly helpful and accomodating. In the end, lucky for us that things
worked out the way they did. We couldn't be happier with the support we
received from Birth Journeys.
Jenna was on call when I went into labor. She
met us at the hospital (she even offered to come out to our house for the
beginning stages of labor!). My labor was long and challenging. Jenna stayed
with us the entire time; she was "present" physically, emotionally,
and spiritually. I really can't say enough about the variety and depth of
support Jenna provided for myself and my partner. She was incredibly
knowledgeable and helped provide information and options during the process
without judgement. She was willing to give her opinion when I asked for it, but
I never felt pressured or judged for the choices I made. She was truly there to
support me and my partner and to help us advocate for ourselves. Her knowledge,
compassion, positive energy, and sheer physical stamina(!) were a gift to my
family. Without Jenna I don't know if I would have had the birth experience I
had - not an easy birth, for sure, but a powerful birth.
Although some parts of
the birth were still vivid a week later, we had questions about some aspects of
the birth as we pieced together what had happened from our memories. During a
postpartum visit (during which she watched Phoebe while we took a much needed
walk) Jenna gave us our "birth story". Unbeknownst to us, Jenna had
been keeping notes during the birth. She gave us several written pages
recounting the birth of Phoebe from her perspective - a true gift.
A huge
"thank you" to the team at Birth Journeys and a special "thank
you" to Jenna for being part of Phoebe's entrance to our world.”

"I was blissed out by my birth experience! Genie knew
exactly what to do to relieve my pain, to help me to stay focus. She offered
many great ideas and most importantly she listened to my husband and I. She was
a wonderful support. she made us feel very comfortable. I expressed my pain
pretty loudly but I was feeling comfortable thanks to her who kept on
encouraging me. I did not feel shy. It was nice to have someone we trusted
taking care of us. The massages were wonderful and the warm pack that smelt
wheat was perfect! The smell reminded me of my childhood and my summers in
Tunisia, I was overwhelmed with good thoughts. What I like is that she prepared
me before every measurement of the cervix, that way I was never disappointed, I
knew even if the number wasn’t what I expected I was still progressing. My
ob/gyn had great feedbacks, she enjoyed working with our team and told Sam and
I that the good progress in the dilation was definitely due to the presence of Genie. She said she will recommend Birth Journeys to her patients. I have
to say that the fact that she speaks fluent French was the icing on the cake!
It was wonderful for me to be able to express myself in my mother tongue."

Testimonial from one of our dads after a postpartum visit:
...great to see you guys today. I felt tears come when I
first saw you because of all the help you were at the birth. Thanks again so
much. You guys are freaking awesome...

Childbirth Education
Did the class meet your expectation?
"Yes and went beyond them. I didn’t have high
expectations, but was happily surprised right away."
What did you like the most about the course?
“It wasn’t airy fairy Vermont Dream Catcher-like. Seriously,
I liked the straight-up presentation and neutral tone, meaning not biased one
way or another. I learned a least one memorable thing each class.”
“I enjoyed the open atmosphere, and the feeling that anything
could be talked about and any question could be asked. It was helpful to have
other couples there as well, to hear their ideas, questions, and concerns.”
“Talking through experiences with the other couples. Being in
a "safe" place to ask questions I wouldn't be comfortable asking
otherwise.”
After attending this class, do you feel more informed about your
birth choices?
“Yes, and I've been through it twice before!”
"I absolutely do!! Can't wait for this experience and I
truly appreciate your input.”
What did you like best about the educator?
"Took
time to answer all our questions."
"Personable,
calm, clear."
"Calm,
informative, pleasant, knowledgable."
